Wire in the Blood: A Tribute

Wire in the Blood: A Tribute

Our first-ever contributed feature revisits a gritty U.K. classic.

raffish

A few weeks ago, the inimitable MysteryGuest decided that Wire in the Blood, the acclaimed British crime drama that ran from 2002 through 2009, deserved a comprehensive update on ScreenTies. (We had a few of its DiD scenes up already, but only in SD, and a couple others were missing entirely.) We're proud to present his fresh Full HD edits, in the form of our very first feature whose playlist clips can be entirely credited to one of our associate contributors.

For those not familiar with the show, its two dozen episodes are based on a series of novels—three when the show launched, though we're up to almost a dozen as of 2021—by Scottish author Val McDermid. (The undisputed crown jewel of the show's DiD scenes, which kicks off the playlist below and is also the only one of the bunch to feature a major character in peril, is drawn from the fourth novel in her series, The Torment of Others.) The fast-paced storyline heavily features serial killers killing serially, so it's not for everyone, but those who like their crime dramas bloody and dark should find much to like.

Incidentally: if you're curious about where the title comes from—we certainly were!—MysteryGuest notes that we can find out here...sort of.

Wire in the Blood is currently streaming on AppleTV and Amazon Prime Video in both the United States and United Kingdom. (In the U.S., it's on Prime via Acorn TV, which can also be purchased as a standalone service.) For streaming options in other countries, we recommend JustWatch. It's also available on DVD (but not Blu-ray...yet).
