Today we pay our respects to one of the most bondage-intensive mainstream films of all time: the 2009 British thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed, starring Gemma Atherton, Eddie Marsan, and Martin Compston in a tale of kidnapping, betrayal, big secrets, handcuffs, rope, and more onscreen ungagging and re-gagging than you can shake a big red ball of silicon at.
But the fun didn't stop there. In 2014, along came Sarah Chronis in Reckless, a faithful Dutch remake known as Bloedlink in its native language. Then in 2019, Netflix brought us a German remake as well: Kidnapping Stella, starring Jella Haase. And was it wishful thinking, or didn't we hear rumors about an Asian version? Either way, we're clearly due for some other enterprising country to step in by 2024 at the latest.
In the meantime, we've just released our official HD edits of TDoAC and Kidnapping Stella, to join our earlier ones of Reckless. (Sorry about the lack of subtitles in the latter, by the way.) I should mention that, in the spirit of fair use, we have strict self-imposed limits about how much we can show you from any given film—and while that doesn't usually force us to leave out anything too critical, in this case we had to make some significant cuts. Still, we're more than happy with the results and hope you'll enjoy them as well. Be sure to check out the original films if they leave you hungry for more!
